The development of a comprehensive plan is a result of a process including analysis of existing conditions and trends, incorporation of public input, and development and review of recommendations to achieve the future vision of Buda. The process started in May 2010, and is expected to last about a year.
Public Participation
Your input is the key to creating a comprehensive plan that truly and holistically represents the vision of the citizens of Buda. Without your input and guidance, we have no basis from which to draft a vision, goals, or recommendations for the future of Buda.
There are two parts to the public participation component:
- Likes and dislikes of current state of the community & Vision Statement for the future of Buda
- Review of element goals and recommendations of the draft Comprehensive Plan
In the first phase, we evaluate where the Buda community is today – what is the current state, what are the trends, and where might we be headed? Citizens have an opportunity to identify what they like and dislike about the community – What are the city’s strengths? What are its weaknesses? What are the opportunities and challenges? This information will help produce a Vision Statement of the future of Buda. The vision statement will distill from input from the community through workshops, interviews, and focus groups, and it will guide development of goals and recommendations of the comprehensive plan. Near the end of the process, the community will have an opportunity to review of the goals and recommendations of the comprehensive plan to make sure we heard you correctly.
Existing Conditions and Trends Analysis
The city and consultant will work with other city departments, agencies, key stakeholders, and the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC) to conduct an initial inventory of existing conditions in Buda and establish a baseline from which to frame recommendations. This will include reviewing and summarizing existing and recently completed planning documents, data collection and assessing base information, and exploring the Buda community and its environment.
Development and Review of Recommendations and Report
Based on existing conditions and input from the community of where they want to go in the future, goals and recommendations will be formed for each of the plan components. These recommendations will be presented to and reviewed by the advisory committee through workshops, and by the citizens at an open house and presentation. Once vetted by the community, the vision and goals established in the public participation phase as well as recommendations for implementation will be presented in a report to the city for adoption.

Every place there is water and beautiful views should have walking and bike trails. That would be so pleasant. Now when we have friends over and want to take them to walk somewhere nice we have to drive away from Buda. The exception is Stagecoach Park but the trails are very limited and are totally exposed to the sun so we head to the greenbelt in Austin.
